About: Escala & Founder Denise Katz
ESCALA swim and active wear is the concept and brainchild of Denise Katz, designer and founder.
Denise was born in Jamaica and started her swim and active wear business under the Spunk swimwear label.
She has been designing and manufacturing for over 25 years, and her collections have been sold across the Caribbean and Europe and showcased; on the runways of the Pret-a-Porter in Paris and the Igedo in Düsseldorf Germany.
Denise has dressed Miss Jamaica Universe and Miss Jamaica World contestants for many years, including Lisa Hanna, when she won the Miss World Competition in 1993.
That year, Lisa wore a Spunk gold and white swimsuit in a photograph which made the front page of the South African newspapers, captioned, "A smile to melt molasses."
She's also worked with named actresses such as Halle Berry.
Denise’s love for the theater led her to creating costumes and dance wear.
Performing since the age of 3, and always actively involved in her school productions; at the age of 16 Denise won the best female drama student in Jamaica.
Robert "Bobby" Ghisays, the renowned actor and director, took Denise under his wing, and was instrumental in her many roles on stage and screen. One of her more memorable ones, was that of Salome in Oscar Wilde's "Salome". Denise has been on tour with many productions,
